Marvels of today. Inspirations of tomorrow
with science corespondent, Frank Hooper
Hi folks. Here atop the roof gardens of New York's finest, 'Lex Lux' Hotel, we watch eagerly over the bay as World Air Fleet performs their fly pass. Celebrities from all over town are pouring in. Two my right, heavyweight boxer, Coulson Carver and his infamous killer cut, and to my left, by the poolside, actress Lu Lu Lamb and today she's wearing green. Within a stray moment I ponder;
Without an imaginative 'concept', there would be no design. No prototype. No manufacture and no product. Instead, we're left with but a dream. But boy, What a dream.
Here are a couple of the thousands of fantastic ideas that haven't made it quite yet for the want of love, money nor science.
She's a beauty and no mistake. Witness the 'Boeing-2707 SST.'
The first American supersonic transport project. Almost as big as a 'Jumbo,' capable of Mach 3 speeds (much faster than Concord) and cancelled in 1971 before two prototypes had been completed.
From plane to train.
Air traffic increases steadily each year and air transport has not seen any fundamental changes since the 1950s.
The Clip-Air project is yet another revolutionary aircraft design that carries interchangeable capsules. The modular tubes are detachable from the flying wing to the railroad car. Last year, Airbus filed a patent for this very idea.
Excitement is growing here at the 'Lux'. But wait, I see maybe a dozen specks on the horizon. Whoa! That was fast!...and in perfect formation. I hope we got all that. Those flyboys sure know how to wing it.
Well, that's all from me, Frank Hooper with WLKC. Now we return you to our studio. Keep this frequency tuned into 786 magnetic.
